Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming two German scientists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to Rukararwe. They are doing research on the differences in diet between Germany and Uganda and how these differences impact human health. As part of their study, they traveled to Uganda and spent several days at our NGO.
During their visit, the researchers were shown our self-planted forest as well as the tree nursery. They also engaged in insightful discussions with Ephraim, our herbalist, exchanging knowledge on research, lab work and the use of medicinal plants. Like this both sides could learn new things from each other.
An essential part of their research involved exploring the local cuisine. They participated in a cooking workshop led by Prima, where they learned how to prepare traditional Ugandan meals, like matooke, posho and millet bread. This experience was of interest to them both personally and for their study.
While getting to know Ugandan food, making new friends and exchanging ideas, they also collected information for their study and took samples to examine later.
At Rukararwe, sharing knowledge is a key part of our work as we work to protect the environment and support our community. That is why the exchange of ideas and expertise was truly appreciated. The scientists enjoyed their stay at Rukararwe and continued their travel with lots of new knowledge and information. We look forward to welcoming them back in the near future for further collaboration.
